at home this morning, on polaroid film

20 September, 2012

Dear friends,

I'm home from my travels and I am happy to begin to share my film with you.

Squam7.jpg

I have just begun to scan film from my time spent on the road this summer, and will share my travels with you soon, but today I am popping into this space to share a few of my photographs from Squam.

Squam8.jpg

Last week I attended Squam Art Workshops in gorgeous Holderness, New Hampshire, where I taught two six hour photography workshops to a handful of really lovely ladies.

I'm still holding onto the goodness of that time.

Be back soon with a few thoughts and more photos. Promise.

I met up with a friend at EAT yesterday, and then strolled the neighborhood a bit before heading back to work. I really like afternoons like that --- the kind that break up my work day; we popped into a few of my favorite shops, took in the sunshine, I even remembered to finally pick up the record I had special ordered from the lovely music shop up the street. good stuff.

I posted a new series of Polaroids to my website friends. Feel free to preview them, HERE.

I'm working on putting up a series of polaroid photographs from a cross country trip my friend Jill and I took some 12 year ago, after I graduated from college. I documented our three month road trip on film, and mostly Polaroid film, and I am so glad I did. Keep an eye out for those in the next few days.

I'll be back here tomorrow to share a few photos I took at the beginning of the year.

Hi, friends. How are you??

I'm delving into my archives a bit. I've been busy working on some new projects in the new year. I'm really happy to be working with an incredible NFP right here in Brooklyn, and I've been photographing a bit, too! I'll share Sian's feature in the next few weeks.

One of my resolutions is to send more post packages and letters to friends, making it a more diligent part of my everyday and I'm happy to say I've started my new year off right; with bundles and letters to loved ones and hope to keep this going.

Also, I love polaroids and miss this film dearly. I cannot say that enough can I? I'll be updating my new photo website with more polaroid film photographs.

But, for now, I just wanted to say hello!
Hope you are all having a wonderful start to your new year.

Just a few polaroid images I've taken at home recently. I miss shooting polaroid so much and when we moved, I re-discovered a few land cameras stored in one of our closets; we haven't used them in who-knows-how-long!.. so I'm crossing fingers the focus isn't kaput on both. The focus on our 420 seems a little wonky, but I'll check out my 340 soon; hoping to fall in love with polaroid all over again, and FP100c film is really helping.

** amended to add : This is such a great read.

I especially love this bit, when asked what her ideal morning scenario would be:

“I would take a walk and hopefully end up in a place with an outdoor table. I would have my sketchbook with me so I could draw my breakfast. And hopefully there would be really, really good coffee. And no music except for classical music. But mostly the sounds of the day beginning and the clink of silverware and the murmur of conversation.”  --Maira Kalman

I'll share more photos from Graz next week.

Happy weekend, friends.

The High Line is close to a spot where I like to process my film. (that's a nice treat)

Section TWO

I have been uber slammed with work lately. Yay Summer! What's helping me stay in the summer mood are our weekend trips to the beach (hoping to have time to process film soon!) And a little gift I bought myself last night. I cannot wait for my new lovely tote to arrive in the post!

Our view of the morning... Bristol, UK. I am swamped.

"So I bring forth out of myself always more, always something further, an endlessly brighter shining, as far as love, which is everything, enriches me in this way and leads me to that which I am instinctively drawn, that I want to tear apart inside me, so that I may create a new thing from this state of newness which, in spite of myself I have perceived."

We dined on castel vetrano olives and wood fired pizza at a favorite restaurant a few nights ago and the magical sun made a garden patch of ferns glow. I have a few fun projects in the works over these next few days. I can't wait to share them with you next week.

Happy weekend friends!

Our everyday mundane sights make for interesting subjects.

We're horribly mundane, aggressively mundane individuals. We're the ninjas of the mundane, you might say.

"Nature, the sky above us, is conducting no mean politics when it presents beauty to all, without discrimination, and nothing old and defective, but fresh and most tasty. Little snowdrops, of what do you speak? They speak still of winter, but also already of spring; they speak of the past, but also saucily and merrily of the new. They speak of the cold but also of something warmer; they speak of snow and at the same time of green, of burgeoning growth. They speak of this and that; they say : Still in the shadows and on the hills lies a fair quantity of snow, but where the sun reaches, it has already melted away. ... the warmth will assert itself everywhere."

Above is an excerpt from 'Snowdrops' in The Walk by Robert Walser.
