August 27

I love the diners around Chicago. A few Autumns ago I took a few photos of us enjoying a quiet lunch at The Golden Apple, one of our favorite spots, as a treat in the midst of a busy work-week.

The light is incredible in here during the autumn months.

Makes me a bit nostalgic for my youth --- those weekends spent at the local rollerskating rink with groups of friends for parties, etc. or bowling, even; this photograph kind-of makes me want to put on a pair of tube socks and a visor and throw a few gutter balls. I'm pretty sure it's those awesome lights glowing in the background and the flavor of that perfect malted that takes me back to those places.

I had a hankering for pancakes and bacon this morning, so off to the Golden Apple we went. It's an excellent greasy spoon dive, and hands down, one of the best I'd ever been to.

good times with some good people in austin.

This is our last full month living in Chicago.... so crazy. Makes me a little teary eyed, but we are both getting really excited about some big changes happening around here. So with that, I'd really like to take the next couple of weeks to show you my favorite places in this town. I get really shy photographing my home --- my camera isn't easy to hide, and so this is a big challenge for me. Wish me luck. I think I am going to really need it.

When I travel with Stephen to places where he is performing and often busy with cue to cues, theatre prepping and rehearsals, my favorite thing to do is wander off with my camera and explore.

These photos were taken on a beautiful (and hot!) afternoon doing just that, in East Austin --- one of my favorite places to photograph.

My friend Alyce posted this video to her blog today, and I love, love, love it.

When in Austin, if you're not staying here, you must lounge with a beverage and a few friends at the Hotel San Jose. Its a teeny tiny oasis. Its the first thing I think of and want to do when I get into town. That, and bask in all of Austin's glorious sun, and eat ice cream.
