A few weeks ago I met up with a handful of really beautiful ladies for an early morning coffee and a little stroll of the high line. Was just lovely.

We had spent most of the day at the brooklyn book festival and decided to cap it off with a pig roast.

.

Sam Sherman of Applewood fame roasted a pig for a few friends at quarter bar brooklyn last weekend. I'd like to note there was ample potato salad, grilled corn and really delicious cabbage slaw as well.

I'm glad I was able to steal away for a bit of quality time with friends.

I'm off on a trip tomorrow to a place that is known for extraordinary pumpkin seed oil; I'll be be back in a few weeks to share some fun stuff.

Central Park is ours! This is a beautiful thing.

Good friends from Chicago came into town for a visit and off to the MET we went --- to see Alexander McQueen's Savage Beauty once and for all. I'd love to go again. And I love that we have a membership to return all year round. Have you seen it? It's really an incredible show.

Raised by Wolves --- (a great little shop that recently opened in our neighborhood) R.B.W sells wears for ladies and gents, but I really love what they're selling for the ladies.

thoughts on brooklyn

This is my mommom in her new kitchen. She's a Jersey girl (as is my mother)... but before she lived in Jersey, she lived in Brooklyn.

My great-grandparents (my mommom's parents) owned a Candy Store in Brooklyn during the roaring twenties, and during what I imagine to be the prime of their lives. Thoughts of them weigh heavily when I wander these streets and I feel like I'm tapping into something I never knew before.

It is really nice being closer to family, here, too and by family I also refer to those wonderful friends who feel like family... and we have so many of those incredible people here.

I've had a fun first few weeks here. (makes me a bit dizzy just thinking about it all.) I've been in town for nearly two weeks and already have a few photo shoots under my belt. (I'll be telling you more about this in the weeks to come.) But for now I'll offer you a little outtake below of a cutie I met last week.

Before Stephen and I flew to Brooklyn to find our new home, we lounged in
Millennium Park for a free Bonnie Prince Billy concert, which was out of this world. He was brilliant that night; a perfect summer evening in chicago.

Our June was hectic; full of trips to and from chicago to new york and then packing and sorting and then doing the most incredible purge of our lives, it seems... which really still feels so incredible -- we had put off a good purge for years!

We've been in our new home in Greenpoint, Brooklyn for a week now and every day I feel like we fall in love with our new neighborhood more and more. There is much more to say and share, but I'll leave you on this note for now.

Excited to show you our new home!

good times with some good people in austin.

This is our last full month living in Chicago.... so crazy. Makes me a little teary eyed, but we are both getting really excited about some big changes happening around here. So with that, I'd really like to take the next couple of weeks to show you my favorite places in this town. I get really shy photographing my home --- my camera isn't easy to hide, and so this is a big challenge for me. Wish me luck. I think I am going to really need it.

Selma was my muse in Austin.

While away, I was able to attend Jerome Bel's performance for contemporary dancer Cédric Andrieux inspired by his original autobigraphical performance for Veronique Doisneau.

Leila's shop, Shoreditch, London.

I walked from our flat in Dalston to meet a friend. Was a nice breakfast here (warning: eggs are drenched in oil!) but most of all I loved how the little man in the kitchen kept popping out to wipe the steamy windows. Such charm!

Been meaning to watch Whale Rider. I've heard such good things.

In austin I found a mint vintage yashica electro 35 gsn rangefinder at uncommon objects on south congress. I'm so happy about that find..

while flying home i came across this passage reading dave eggers's the only meaning of the oil-wet water:

low-flying, quick moving clouds: I haven't long to live.

treetops, rounded and rough: That's probably true.

low-flying, quick moving clouds: I won't even make it to the sea. I can already see where I'll end.

treetops, rounded and rough: I don't know what to tell you.

low-flying, quick moving clouds: But the thing is, I really love moving like this, though I know I won't even make it.

treetops, rounded and rough: There are advantages to flight.

low-flying, quick moving clouds: But thought is its unfitting companion.

so fitting... isn't it? it was really wonderful watching the boys perform their latest in austin.
