Squam Art Workshops was a reprieve. From the moment I arrived, a bit late due to a delay in my travel arrangements, I was welcome with such care as Elizabeth and Lauren met me at the edge of camp and guided me to my cabin, in the dark.

My cabin was a warm room full of chattering women sitting around a fire, snacking, crocheting; a scene I quickly grew accustomed to.

I was so nervous about teaching! I had only ever taught children. But my workshops went off like a dream.

With all of my prepping ahead of time, I didn't even begin to feel ready, not really ready that is, until the moment I arrived. To my cabin mates, Heather, Kayte, Amy, Helene, Susy and Cal, it was a joy to meet all of you.

I love teaching. And I am so proud of my ladies, of the photographs they took and how excited they were to shoot film.

I'm home from my travels and I am happy to begin to share my film with you.





I have just begun to scan film from my time spent on the road this summer, and will share my travels with you soon, but today I am popping into this space to share a few of my photographs from Squam.





Last week I attended Squam Art Workshops in gorgeous Holderness, New Hampshire, where I taught two six hour photography workshops to a handful of really lovely ladies.

I'm working in my old neighborhood, Logan Square, Chicago this week. And, whoa! lula got a face lift! Everything always changes when you return to your old home... but you know, I'll always have our chicago near and dear to my heart, and I really like that.

We took a day trip upstate last Saturday, November 5; Shared a hot cocoa and a cookie, and it was magical.

At the Stone Gate (Kamenita vrata*) at the top of Radićeva street in Gornji Grad, Zagreb there is a little, hidden nook where people go to light candles; it's a place to make a wish and it is believed by many locals that if you make a wish and light a candle here it will be granted. I just really like being there. I remember when we first traveled to Zagreb a few years ago, how I was taken by the mood that lingered there. I visited this spot a few times during that first trip, mostly just slowly wandering past on my way to the top of the hill. It was my desired route; a really beautiful addition to my day to see people of all ages come and go lighting candles and making wishes. This time around, I stood with my tea a bit longer and felt a little more comfortable taking pictures.

It definitely feels intense at times, but mostly it just feels hopeful. On my next visit I think I'll be a bit more brave, and make a wish.

I'd like to drink this many bottles of wine in my lifetime.





I could definitely go for an afternoon bench conversation with another local, retired austrian man with a great haircut and linen blazer.





Such wonderful, long indian summer days.





And the styrian pumpkin seed oil is so nice! (They dress all of their salads with it)
I'm glad we brought the taste of styria home with us.

After a bit of breakfast...





...on my second day in Graz, I climbed what everyone referred to as the Schloß (short for Schloßberg); a hill topped by a castle, in the center of the city of Graz, Austria.







Graz (aka the city of design) is even more lovely when viewed from above... the kunsthaus looked pretty cool from up there.

There's a lot of shopping in Graz; it's pretty posh. But I loved the markets the most.
